From our humble beginnings of providing support services in New Brunswick NJ, we've continued to expand, providing vital services to thousands in need over the last 24 years.
Making It Possible to end Homelessness Accomplishments
1987
Local social service advocates and religious leaders come together to respond to the crisis of homelessness in Middlesex County
Middlesex Interfaith Partners with the Homeless is established to provide services to the homeless in our community
1988
Established a church-based program to serve dinners to the poor and homeless in New Brunswick and surrounding area
Created a homeless outreach center to help people find shelter and/or obtain appropriate benefits
Established emergency shelter in Edison synagogue to care for the overflow of homeless men
1989
Middlesex Interfaith… became the first agency in the country to receive surplus Federal property under the Stewart B. McKinney Homeless Assistance Act
1991
Middlesex Interfaith… opened Amandla Crossing Transitional Housing Program on 3.2 acres in Edison. This program serves single-parent families who receive welfare benefits. We were one of the first transitional housing programs in the State.
1992
Amandla Crossing held its first “graduation” for 26 families, all of whom moved to permanent affordable housing
1996
Middlesex Interfaith… secured nine acres of federal surplus property at Camp Kilmer in Edison
2001
Middlesex Interfaith…. collaborated with local volunteers, religious institutions, and homeless service providers to create “The ClothesLine”, a mobile clothing distribution program
2004
Opened Imani Park Transitional Housing Program on the Camp Kilmer site. This program serves individuals and families living with HIV/AIDS.
2006
Middlesex Interfaith…changed its name to Making It Possible to end Homelessness, reflecting our success in meeting our mission of ending homelessness.
2007
Making It Possible to end Homelessness developed a new program of independent living for young women aging out of the State’s foster care system.
2010
To date, Making It Possible…has ended homelessness for over 450 families representing over 650 children
